A bad day for the White House

Remember how the White House -- and all its cabinets -- 'respect' the Iraqi Constitution?

They don't, but they sure pretend to.

AFP reports Iraq's high court has ruled on two things.

First, we'll note that Salim al-Juburi remains Speaker of Parliament.

Why?

It's the same reason we cited back in April -- 131 MPs does not a quorum make.

The vote to oust him did not count.

The second one is even more hurtful to the anti-democratic White House which has been encouraging Haider al-Abadi (the US-installed prime minister) to create a new Cabinet.

As we've repeatedly noted, the Constitution does not allow for him to make that decision.

But worse for him, the court found the vote their illegal.

Why?

MPs were prevented from entering the Parliament to vote and guards were sent into the Parliament.

Guess Haider's now allowed to bully the way Barack wanted him to.

The Constitution of Iraq is very clear.

And the State Dept's spokespeople love to cite it in their press briefings -- when it benefits them.

When it doesn't, they ignore that country's Constitution.

That's a message as damaging as any corruption in Iraq.

More bad news?

Greg Jaffe (WASHINGTON POST via STARS AND STRIPES) reports:

The U.S. military has reopened its investigation into a 2015 airstrike near the Iraqi city of Mosul that killed at least 11 civilians, including nine women and children, U.S. military officials said.
The move by U.S. Central Command follows an article in The Washington Post that identified flaws in the initial probe of the attack, which concluded that only four civilians were killed.

Where's Third?

Everything's done but the editorial.

Ava and I finished our TV piece on Sunday.

I am not working Mondays on Third, I have no problem taking the blame for that.

I'm tired and I'm tired of it not being finished on Sunday.

So I've stopped working on Mondays on Third.

We've been working this morning and everything's done but the editorial.

I've got to speak at 9:00 (EST) so my time is gone.

And if I hadn't bailed a few minutes ago, we wouldn't have anything up here.

It is what it is.
